Jacobs Named Employer of the Year

MT. VERNON — Karen MacEachern loves her employer. So much, in fact, that she nominated her for Employer of the Year.

Dr. Kristen M. Jacobs, co-owner of Wise Health Solutions, Ltd. was the recipient of the Mt. Vernon Business and Professional Women’s Club Employer of the Year Monday night during the group’s monthly meeting.

Jacobs, who has only been a BPW member for approximately two months, said she was shocked. And as much as MacEachern appreciates her as a boss, Jacobs said she appreciates MacEachern as an employee.

“I could not have done anything I’ve done without her,” Jacobs said.

In a speech, MacEachern described taking a temporary office job with Jacobs after losing her job after 20 years in the communications field. Jacobs then went on to open her own private practice, “Wise Health Solutions, Ltd.” and asked MacEachern to come with her as an employee.

Jacobs opened her practice along with her husband Dr. Robert L. Wise, who was a guest at Monday’s meeting.

“Knowing that I had no experience in the medical field, she was willing to take a chance on me and teach me to operate a medical office,” MacEachern wrote.

MacEachern said since that time she has learned a lot from Jacobs.

“She is always willing to teach and demonstrate anything that I ask to know,” MacEachern wrote. “We work very well together and have since also become very good friends.”

MacEachern noted Jacobs’ commitment to her patients and her work promoting women’s health. In her practice, Jacobs specializes in preventive medicine, women’s and children’s health and anti-aging skin care. Her husband, a chiropractor, specializes in pain management without medication or surgery.

Jacobs is currently vice president of the Southern Illinois Region of the American Cancer Society.

“Dr. Kristen, I feel, is one of the best employers anyone could be proud to work for,” MacEachern said.
